Gayle Reuter is moving on. After more than 15 years working as a top aide to former Congressman Jim Moran, the Alexandria Living Legend and Del Ray leader has been hired as the accreditation manager for the Sheriff’s Office.
“I feel very blessed,” Reuter told ALXnow. “I’ve always been impressed with the sheriff’s department, and their outreach in their community service.”
Reuter, who cofounded Del Ray’s annual Art of the Avenue block party, is also a longtime member of the Del Ray Business Association, and constantly volunteers her time. Before working with Moran, she was a council aide to former Alexandria City Councilman David Speck, and has a degree in criminal justice administration from Truman State University.
“I’m excited that Gayle Reuter is joining our office as the new accreditation manager,” Alexandria Sheriff Dana Lawhorne told ALXnow. “I greatly value her extensive experience and her knowledge of the City. Her outstanding organizational and communication skills are also tremendous assets and I’m proud that she will continue to serve our community.”
Reuter, who worked with Moran through his retirement from Congress as his executive legislative assistant, will ensure that the Sheriff’s Office maintains a series of professional and financial accreditations from the American Correctional Association for its jail administration and management.
Aside from the work, she said she is looking forward to volunteering for the department in the community.
“I love that the Sheriff’s Office is always out there, helping with ALIVE! food distribtion, during snowstorms, delivering Wheels on Wheels,” Reuter said. “So, aside from my new job, hopefully I’ll be able to help volunteer and see where they need things. I would love to help represent the sheriff’s department in some of their outreach.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
