A veteran of housing development in Connecticut will take the reins of the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA) next month as the new CEO.
Erik Johnson comes to Alexandria from Hamden, Connecticut, where he served as Director of Economic and Community Development. Before that, Johnson oversaw the housing department for the City of Hartford.
A release said, in that role, Johnson oversaw the negotiation and closure of $100 million in multifamily developmental projects. The New Haven Register reported that, in Connecticut, Johnson worked to restore residents’ faith in local government after years of poor financial decision-making.
Johnson will take over as CEO of ARHA on Sept. 9. Johnson succeeds interim CEO Rickie Maddox who in turn took the role in November 2023 after former CEO Keith Pettigrew left to become executive director of the D.C. Housing Authority.
“I am honored to serve as CEO,” Johnson said in a release. “I plan to build on the successes of Keith Pettigrew and Rickie Maddox to move ARHA into an even greater position to serve our residents. I look forward to helping ARHA bring more affordable housing to Alexandria.”
