Tonight (Tuesday) is National Night Out, a collaborative event where local communities and Alexandria public safety agencies host block parties and events together.
The idea of the event, which has been ongoing since 1984, is giving a chance for locals to meet law enforcement and other agencies outside of an emergency situation.
A full list of participating communities is available online, along with descriptions of what events are planned — like food, face painting, a live DJ and more.
According to the event website:
During the event, residents throughout Alexandria are asked to come outside and enjoy the evening with their neighbors, police, firefighters, and other City officials. Events held will vary by neighborhood and include cookouts, block parties, and more.
The Alexandria Police Department’s K-9 Unit, Motorcycle Unit, Bike Patrol, Command Staff and patrol officers will tour neighborhoods and offer special demonstrations with members of Alexandria Sheriff’s Office and Alexandria Fire Department and other public safety agencies.
