A new pop-up focusing on products made in Alexandria is planning to open next month on the waterfront.
Made in ALX is a collective of Alexandria-based artisans that currently sell products out of the Alexandria Visitor’s Center (221 King Street), but in early November the group are planning to open at 1 Wales Alley, next to Virtue Feed & Grain and Waterfront Park in Old Town. The pop-up is scheduled to run through Dec. 29.
The collective started late last year, and is founded by local residents Lore Burek and Alexandria Living Magazine publisher Beth Lawton.
“The pop-up shop (in the space previously occupied by Bike & Roll, which moved up King Street) will feature items perfect for holiday gifts from more than two dozen of Made in ALX’s member partners,” Made in ALX said in a press release. “Items will include candles, pet items, clothing, accessories, jewelry, household items, art and much more.”
Local makers featured in the pop-up include local honey maker Alexandria Honey Co. and Cosmic Crayon. The press release noted that Made in ALX plans to host multiple events at the pop-up space this fall, including classes and demonstrations.
“On Dec. 11, Made in ALX will offer free gift wrapping and collect donations for the food bank at ALIVE!” the group said in the press release. “The goal of Made in ALX is to make it easy for people to find and purchase locally-crafted goods.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
