Suspect awaits sentencing after guilty plea in stabbing near Braddock Metro station

The suspect in a stabbing near the Braddock Road Metro station has pleaded guilty to malicious wounding and now awaits sentencing.

Maurice Antonio Moore, 55, pleaded guilty on Sept. 24 to stabbing a man in the neck near benches in the plaza area of the 1200 block of Braddock Place on the evening of July 21. Moore faces between five and 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $100,000 and will be sentenced on Dec. 10.

A neighbor told the Alexandria Police Department that she saw Moore and the victim outside drinking, and that Moore made sexually inappropriate comments about her when she sat down. The comments angered the male victim, who went and sat by the neighbor. The victim then got into an argument with Moore after Moore allegedly took his cigarettes, according to a recently unsealed search warrant affidavit.

“Mr. Moore was angered by statements [the victim] was making and then stood up and produced a knife.”

Moore was found guilty of trespassing in 2025 and 2024, and he was sentenced to 120 days in jail and a year of unsupervised probation, according to court records. He was also found guilty of destruction of property and petit larceny in 2021 and trespassing and having an open container in 2020.
