A rollover crash in Potomac Yard sent two people to the hospital Sunday (Sept. 13), according to the Alexandria Police Department.
Police and fire units responded around 3:12 p.m. to Richmond Highway and E. Reed Avenue. An APD spokesperson told ALXnow two vehicles were involved.
The Honda ended up on its side, and first responders worked to extricate the driver, according to radio dispatches. A Mercedes SUV was also involved in the collision.
One person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and the other person was transported with non-life-threatening injuries.
APD did not specify the cause of the crash, and the investigation is ongoing.
Around the same time, several Alexandria Fire Department units had been redirected from a four-vehicle crash on I-395 to assist with the rollover crash. The crash on southbound I-395 between Seminary Road and Duke Street resulted in three people taken to the hospital, according to the police and fire scanner.
There have been over a dozen reported crashes around the Richmond Highway intersection in the last decade, according to the city’s crash dashboard. The speed limit on Richmond Highway has been 25 mph since the city reduced the limit in 2019.
