The superintendent search remains on track as the Alexandria City School Board discusses candidates.
On Thursday (Aug. 27), the School Board held a closed session to discuss prospective candidates and their “qualifications, experience, references, suitability, potential appointment, compensation, and other terms and conditions of employment.”
ACPS did not specify how many superintendent candidate applications it has received in a statement to ALXnow.
“The Alexandria City School Board’s search for the next superintendent is a confidential process, and information identifying candidates or other details that could compromise the confidentiality of the process will not be shared publicly,” ACPS said. “As outlined in the superintendent search timeline, the School Board will conduct confidential interviews with selected candidates as part of the process.”
The position was open for applications until Aug. 12. According to the job listing, the next superintendent could receive a multi-year contract with a salary range around $305,000.
Acting Superintendent Grace Taylor indicated to the Alexandria Times she was not seeking the permanent position. Before serving in the interim position, Taylor served as ACPS chief of staff.
The School Board launched a search after former Superintendent Melanie Kay-Wyatt announced her planned resignation. Taylor was announced as an interim replacement on Aug. 12 as Kay-Wyatt and the School Board agreed to an earlier resignation date.
Executive search firm Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates helped the School Board with recruiting candidates. The school system expects to announce a new superintendent in October after the School Board makes a selection.
