Councilwoman Greene hosting free women’s health forum this weekend

A free forum focused on women’s health is coming to the Charles Houston Recreation Center this weekend.

The EmpowerHer Women’s Health Forum will feature panel discussions, curated vendors and breakout sessions to discuss mental, sexual and reproductive health. The event will be held at the recreation center at 901 Wythe Street from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday.

City Councilwoman Jacinta Greene created the forum, which she is hosting in partnership with the city, Alexandria Celebrates Women and the Ivy Foundation of Northern Virginia.

“My focus for my term as an Alexandria City Councilwoman is on women’s empowerment,” Greene told ALXnow. “That’s women from their teens and beyond. I brought the idea to the city manager, and he was very agreeable with wanting to partner with me in doing this for the women in Alexandria.”

The event happens to fall on International Women’s Day and is intentionally being held during Women’s History Month.

Greene hopes the forum will become an annual event.

“It is so important that we uplift women in our city,” she said. “It’s going to be a great day full of sisterhood and learning things from women in different walks of life, things that you might not know, that could make your life easier.”
