The city of Alexandria will not collect waste on New Year’s Day, and the remainder of the week’s collection will follow a modified schedule.
After Thursday, waste collection will be delayed by one day for the rest of the week, according to the city.
- Thursday refuse, recycling, yard waste and curbside food waste collection will be on Friday, Jan. 2.
- Friday curbside food waste collection will be on Saturday, Jan. 3.
The holiday will also bring citywide government office closures, including at the Department of Motor Vehicles, the Alexandria Library system, city health facilities and courts.
The Alexandria Police Department will suspend parking enforcement at metered spaces and residential permit parking districts on Thursday, and DASH will follow a weekend schedule with services suspended on Lines 102, 103 and 104.
Metro will extend rail service hours tomorrow (Wednesday) until 2 a.m. for New Year’s Eve, in addition to offering free parking, bus and rail fares starting at 8 p.m. On Thursday, rails will be open from 5 a.m. to midnight, with Metrobus operating on a Sunday schedule.
