Government offices in Alexandria will close on Wednesday and Thursday to observe Christmas.
Closures this week will affect Alexandria courts, the Alexandria Library, the Department of Motor Vehicles, health facilities, the city’s impound lot and more. Metered parking restrictions and residential permit parking will not be enforced during this period.
Similar citywide closures are also planned on Thursday, Jan. 1 to observe New Year’s Day. Details for specific offices and services are available on the city’s website.
Waste and recycling collection will be delayed by one day on Christmas and New Year’s Day.
On those days, DASH will operate on a weekend schedule with services suspended on lines 102, 103 and 104. The King Street Trolley will continue to operate from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. daily, with service every 15 minutes.
On Wednesday, the Alexandria Health Department and the Flora Krause Casey Health Center plan to close at noon, while the Teen Wellness Center will be closed all day. All three sites will be closed on Christmas, Friday, Dec. 26 and New Year’s Day.
The holidays will also bring some closures or modified hours to all Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities facilities as well as the Torpedo Factory Art Center and Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.
RPCA facilities will close Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1, with the Chinquapin center closing at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31. The Torpedo Factory will close for Christmas and New Year’s Day, as will the AWLA, which plans to offer 11 a.m.-2 p.m. hours on Christmas Eve and Dec. 31.
Historic Alexandria museums and sites will operate on the following schedule.
Wednesday, Dec. 24: The Alexandria Archaeology Museum and the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum will be open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Thursday, Dec. 25: All Historic Alexandria museums will be closed.
Friday, Dec. 26: The Alexandria Archaeology Museum, Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, and the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum will be open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 27: Fort Ward Museum & Historic Site and the Friendship Firehouse Museum are closed.
Students at Alexandria City Public Schools are out of school from today (Monday) through Friday, Jan. 2 for winter break.
