Alexandria to host open house on N. Columbus Street sewer project

Alexandria is hosting a pre-construction open house for the upcoming N. Columbus Street sanitary sewer project in Old Town West.

Construction on the $1 million project is expected to begin in December at the 600 block of N. Columbus Street and last until November 2026. City plans entail disconnecting the area’s sewer line from the combined sewer and connecting to a separated sewer line.

“This will reduce the potential for sewer back-ups into building basements, caused by too much water entering the combined sewer system during periods of significant wet weather,” according to a city project description.

The pre-construction meeting is scheduled from 7-8 p.m. next Thursday, Nov. 6, at the Charles Houston Recreation Center (901 Wythe St.). There, project members will be available to answer public questions and discuss construction plans, work hours, road closures, parking restrictions, and more.

The contractor on the project is S&S Partners, LLC, according to the city.
