Alexandria City High School offering free STI screening this week

Alexandria City High School students can get free and confidential sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing at school this week.

The free “Hallo-Screen” event, which is open to all Alexandria teens, will be conducted over the course of two days at the Teen Wellness Center clinics on both ACHS campuses. The testing schedule is below.

  • Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2-5 p.m. at the Minnie Howard Clinic (3701 W. Braddock Road) — Door 31, Suite 1206
  • Friday, Oct. 31, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2-5 p.m. at the King Street Clinic (3330 King Street) — Door 3

The “Hallo-Screen” is scheduled as several STI rates have risen in Alexandria over the past decade. The Alexandria Health Department encourages sexually active people of all ages to get tested.

“Being a teenager is stressful,” AHD Director David Rose said in a release. “STI testing gives young people knowledge and power to be healthy if they’re having sex. We hope to see teens come out, and we hope that the adults in their lives encourage them to love safely.”

Interested in a screening? AHD offers STI testing and treatment services at the Del Pepper Community Resource Center at 4850 Mark Center Drive.
