Ethiopian fall festival to celebrate culture, music at Chinquapin Park Sunday

The Ethiopian Community Support and Assistance Center will host its fifth annual Ethiopian Fall Festival on Sunday at Chinquapin Park, featuring live music, traditional dance and authentic cuisine.

The event runs from 1-7 p.m. at the park at 3210 King St. and is open to the public.

Festival-goers can experience Ethiopian culture through performances by the Harmonic Fusion Band, singers Fitsum Mahdere and Fantish Bekele, traditional dancers and youth performers. The event will also feature a traditional coffee ceremony, honey wine tastings, cultural vendors, children’s activities, and a community soccer game.

Guest presentations are scheduled from 4:00 to 4:30 p.m.

“The Fall Festival is a cornerstone event that celebrates Ethiopian heritage while building bridges with the wider Alexandria community,” Gennet Negussie, executive director of ECSAC, said in a statement. “The festival provides an opportunity for residents to experience authentic Ethiopian culture through music, dance, food and traditional ceremonies, fostering cultural understanding and community connection.”

Tickets cost $10 online through Friday and $15 at the door on Sunday. Parking is available at the Alexandria City High School parking garage. Free DASH bus service is available with stops on King Street at Chinquapin Park.

The program is supported by a grant from the City of Alexandria through the Annual Arts Program. Greenberg & Bederman, Attorneys at Law, is the lead sponsor.

ECSAC is a nonprofit organization that supports the Ethiopian and broader immigrant community through cultural, educational, and social programs.
