The Alexandria City Council will consider a grant application for flood mitigation projects and vote on dozens of board appointments when it convenes Tuesday, October 14 at City Hall.
The Legislative Meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m. at 301 King St., will be preceded by a Landmark Community Development Authority meeting at 5:45 p.m. and a closed executive session (if needed) regarding specific legal matters pertaining to the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority.
Among the action items, council members will vote on a resolution supporting a grant application to the Virginia Community Flood Preparedness Fund. The application seeks funding for Phase 2 of the Four Mile Run and Hooffs Run inlet replacement projects and Valley Drive storm drain improvements under the city’s Flood Action Alexandria program.
City Manager James Parajon will deliver an oral report on the state of the economy during the meeting.
Council will hold first readings on several ordinances, including a rezoning of 3333 Helen Street from R-2-5/Residential to RB/Townhouse; a text amendment adding provisions for a mural program; updates to environmental management regulations addressing coastal resilience and sea-level rise in compliance with the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act; and an ordinance amending penalties for fats, oils, and grease management violations.
The council will process resignations from nine board members across various commissions, including the Beautification Commission, Budget and Fiscal Affairs Advisory Committee, and Historic Restoration and Preservation Commission.
Contested appointments will be decided for 12 boards and commissions, including the Board of Architectural Review, Environmental Policy Commission, Human Rights Commission, and Waterfront Commission. Uncontested appointments cover 15 additional positions.
Vice Mayor Sarah Bagley will deliver an oral report on the Council of Governments Board of Directors. Council members will also present proclamations recognizing National Disability Employment Awareness Month and Cybersecurity Awareness Month.
