Two Alexandria-based choruses have qualified to perform in the Barbershop Harmony Society’s international competition next year in St. Louis, Missouri.

The Alexandria A Cappella Collective’s choruses, the Harmonizers and Metro Voices, recently competed at the Barbershop Harmony Society’s Mid-Atlantic District Competition in Cape May, New Jersey, qualifying to compete at the event, which will take place from June 28 to July 6.

The Harmonizers placed third, and Metro Voices placed fifth in the recent competition. Both groups are made up of volunteers.

“We are thrilled we’ll be going to Saint Louis,” said Anthony Colosimo, the Harmonizers’ Associate Director. “It is one of the greatest choral competitions in the entire world, and we are so excited that Metro Voices will be joining us there for the first time!”

Samantha Tramack, Metro Voices’ director, said that it’s incredible for the group to compete in an international competition after it was founded just two years ago.

“It’s a testament to how hard everyone has worked and how much the chorus has grown,” Tramack said. “And we couldn’t have done this without the support we’ve received from the Harmonizers and the entire AACC organization.”
