Alexandria Mayor Alyia Gaskins administered the oath of office to Alexandria Country Day School’s Student Council members on Wednesday, Sept. 10, continuing a tradition that has marked the beginning of the school year for most of the institution’s 42-year history.
The ceremony at the private school represented Gaskins’ first participation in the annual event since taking office. Previous Alexandria mayors have regularly conducted the swearing-in as part of the school’s start-of-year activities.
Taylor Reynolds was sworn in as student body president, with Biruk Tekleberhan serving as vice president. Sabella Nunn will serve as secretary and Owen Doxey as treasurer for the 2025-26 academic year.
The newly installed council includes 11 grade-level representatives spanning fifth through eighth grades.
Eighth-grade representatives are Aaron Ashkenazi, Cece Baker, Abby Michel and James Wazorko. Representing seventh grade are Beau Bowers, Bennett Hull, Alex Keplinger and Channing Smith.
Charlotte Jones, Aurelia Ludvigsen and Natalie Michel will represent sixth grade, while Addison Alexander and Mae Sanchious serve as fifth-grade representatives.
Alexandria Country Day School, founded in 1983, serves students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.
