The City of Alexandria will host the second Duke Street Land Use Plan Community Meeting on Thursday, Sept. 25, at Bishop Ireton High School cafeteria to discuss draft guiding principles based on community feedback.
The meeting will take place at 201 Cambridge Road beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a presentation and question-and-answer session, followed by facilitated discussion on draft principles from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. The presentation portion will also be available online via Zoom.
City planners will present a summary of feedback received from the community poll and resulting draft guiding principles for the Duke Street corridor. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in facilitated discussions about the proposed principles that will guide future development along the major thoroughfare.
The meeting location is accessible via the free DASH Bus Route 30, with entrance through Door 15 off the Lower Lot. Community members driving to the meeting should park in the Lower Lot, and signage will direct attendees to the proper location.
Food, childcare, and language interpretation in Spanish and Amharic will be available. Requests for interpretation in other languages must be made to Christian Brandt, Urban Planner, by Thursday, Sept. 18, at [email protected] or 703-746-3859.
For those joining virtually, the meeting can be accessed with Meeting ID 956 1709 4743 and Passcode 979118, or by dialing 1-301-715-8592.
The city has also launched the Duke Street Land Use Plan Engagement Hub, an interactive webpage that will serve as the destination for digital engagement opportunities, including community polls and interactive mapping activities. After the Sept. 25 meeting, opportunities to provide feedback on the draft guiding principles will be available on the hub.
The engagement hub currently features a “Live, Work, Play” interactive map and will continue to offer additional digital engagement opportunities as the planning process progresses.
A recording of the Sept. 25 meeting will be posted on the project webpage following the event, along with a schedule of future community meetings and pop-up events.
Information about upcoming meetings and engagement opportunities will be communicated through the city’s eNews, WhatsApp and community group networks. For more information, contact Brandt at 703-746-3859, visit the project website or connect through WhatsApp.
