Tower crane installation set for Monday at The Heritage at Old Town

Construction crews will install a tower crane on Monday, Aug. 18, at The Heritage at Old Town redevelopment project, marking another significant milestone in the multiphase apartment complex that broke ground in June.

Jair Lynch Real Estate Partners announced the crane installation will take place Aug. 18 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., with extended hours possible under permit if needed. The work will affect parking and traffic along the 500-534 block of South Alfred Street.

Parking will be prohibited on the affected block from midnight Aug. 18 through midnight Aug. 19. Construction crews will stage multiple tractor-trailers and heavy equipment on Alfred Street, and two mobile cranes will be positioned on-site to help erect the tower crane.

Wilkes Park will remain open to the public during construction, and residents are welcome to observe the installation from a safe distance, according to the developer.

The Heritage at Old Town is a three-phase redevelopment that will ultimately include 598 apartment units across multiple buildings. Phase 1, currently under construction at Block 4, will feature 310 apartment homes with more than 14,000 square feet of amenity space, rooftop terraces, a courtyard pool and two levels of underground parking.

The project officially broke ground June 18 with Mayor Alyia Gaskins, Jair Lynch Real Estate Partners President and CEO Jair Lynch, and community members in attendance. The developer hosted a block party three days later to celebrate the construction start with residents and neighbors.

Jair Lynch Real Estate Partners purchased the fully entitled development plans in December 2021. The project includes affordable housing components, with 140 apartments designated for families eligible for the federal Housing Assistance Program and an additional 10 units for Housing Choice Voucher Program participants.

The developer has not announced a completion timeline for the overall project.
