Alexandria extends Duke Street planning poll to Aug. 18

The City of Alexandria has extended the deadline for its Duke Street Corridor community poll until Aug. 18, officials announced Thursday.

The poll, which launched as part of an 18-month planning process that began June 9, has already drawn more than 800 participants, according to the city. The planning effort covers the Duke Street Corridor from Alexandria Union Station to Van Dorn Street at the future Landmark/West End development.

The comprehensive planning process aims to update land use plans for the area’s long-term future. Topics under consideration include housing affordability, land use, mobility, pedestrian and cyclist safety and accessibility, and connecting existing and future open spaces.

The poll is available in three languages: English, Spanish and Amharic. Links to all versions can be found on the project website at alexandriava.gov/DukeStreetPlan.

The city continues to schedule pop-up events along the corridor to gather additional community feedback. The next scheduled pop-up will take place Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the ALDI store at 4580 Duke Street.

Additional pop-up events and engagement opportunities will be announced on the project website and communicated through the city’s eNews and WhatsApp channels, as well as shared with community groups.
