The Bethesda Big Train defeated the Alexandria Aces 15-3 Monday night at Frank Mann Field to sweep the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League Championship Series and claim their third consecutive title.
The Big Train won their 12th championship in franchise history and fourth in five seasons with the two-game sweep. They opened the series with a 10-4 victory Sunday in Game 1.
Big Train outfielder Alex Peltier of East Carolina was named League Championship Series Most Outstanding Player after going 5-for-10 with a home run, six RBIs, two stolen bases and five runs scored in the two games.
The loss ended the Aces’ 2025 season at Frank Mann Field at Four Mile Run Park, which marked their final home game of the year. The Aces, in their 17th season in the league, were managed by Chris Berset.
The Alexandria franchise has had 50 former players selected in the Major League Baseball Draft since beginning play in 2008, including seven in the 2025 draft.
Frank Fannon, a former Alexandria city councilman, serves as team president. The franchise was co-founded by Donald Dinan and Patrick Malone, who served as the team’s first president and general manager from 2008-2010.
