Welcome to Friday, Alexandria! Here’s our compilation of the most-read stories of the week.

Our top story this week is on the sad news of the death of Tiffany Barner, a longtime Alexandria educator and a Dean of Students at Alexandria City High School. The ACHS community was notified of Barner’s death in a note July 21 (Monday) from ACHS Interim Executive Principal Lance Harrell.

“Ms. Barner was a deeply valued member of the Alexandria City High School community who touched the lives of countless students, colleagues and families with her unwavering dedication, kindness and passion for education,” Harrell wrote. “Her presence brought comfort, inspiration and joy to those around her, and her impact on our school will be felt for years to come.”

Our second most-read story this week is about a Manassas woman charged after allegedly using an expensive Airbnb in Old Town for prostitution.

The 35-year-old woman was identified after police searched the phone of a man who died in his car in the 500 block of N. West Street on Saturday, July 5. She was charged with keeping a bawdy place after police found text messages on the man’s phone and launched an investigation, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.

Our third top post is about Nancy Hulkower, an Alexandria resident who joined the cast of “Bachelor in Paradise” this week, marking the first time senior contestants have appeared on the reality dating show.

Hulkower previously competed on “The Golden Bachelor” in 2023, where she was eliminated in the fourth week.
