ALIVE! is giving away groceries at these two distribution points on Saturday

ALIVE! is hosting two free food distributions this week in Alexandria.

The nonprofit gives away free food to approximately 20,000 families in the city every month. No registration is needed, although proof of city residency may be requested. The walk-up distributions will be on Saturday (July 26) from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Leonard “Chick” Armstrong Recreation Center (25 West Reed Avenue) and William Ramsay Recreation Center (5650 Sanger Avenue).

With food insecurity rising across the region, ALIVE! is also trying to collect 40,000 pounds of food in Alexandria by the end of the month.

There are two free food distribution events in Alexandria on Saturday, July 26 (via ALIVE!)

According to ALIVE!:

ALIVE! distributes free bags of groceries (produce, chicken, eggs, bread) at multiple locations on the last Saturday of the month from 8:30 am – 10:30 am. Please bring reusable bags. ALIVE! food distributions are for City of Alexandria residents. Proof of Alexandria City residency may be requested. Please note that the ALIVE! Food Hubs will be closed on July 26th.

  • Tuesdays 12 – 6 p.m. (Closed 2 – 3 p.m.)
  • Wednesdays 12 – 6 p.m. (Closed 2 – 3 p.m.)
  • Thursdays 12 – 6 p.m. (Closed 2 – 3 p.m.)
  • Saturdays 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

West End Food Pantry (5150 Fillmore Avenue)

  • Mondays 5 – 6:30 pm (DASH Line 31, Metrobus 28A)

Christ House Food Pantry (131 S. West Street)

  • Daily from 5:00 – 5:30 p.m.

Meade Memorial Episcopal (322 N. Alfred Street)

  • Bag Lunch Program every Monday to Friday from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Mt. Jezreel Baptist Church Food Pantry (317 N. Payne Street)

  • Fridays 10:00 – 11:30 a.m., call 1.800.268.0448 to register for food pickup (DASH Line 30, 31 & King Street Trolley)

CCDA Alexandria Food Pantry (4725A Eisenhower Avenue)

  • Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Old Town Community Church (212 South Washington Street)

  • Breakfast Ministry on Wednesdays from 6 – 8 a.m.

Grace Episcopal Church Food Pantry (3601 Russell Road)

  • Tuesdays and Fridays 6 – 7:30 p.m.

ALIVE! also delivers monthly food door-to-door for seniors, overburdened parents, and the disabled.
