Seven Alexandria Aces alumni drafted by MLB teams, setting new franchise record

The Alexandria Aces have achieved a new milestone, setting a franchise record with seven former players selected in the 2025 MLB Draft held July 13-14.

The previous record was five draft selections in 2019, with the team also seeing four players chosen in both 2017 and 2015. This year’s draft class brings the Aces’ total to 50 players sent to MLB organizations over their 17 seasons, averaging nearly three draftees per year.

Leading this year’s draft class was George Mason’s James Quinn-Irons, selected in the 5th round (147th overall) by the Tampa Bay Rays. The 2024 Aces standout led the team in RBIs (36), doubles (11), and walks (29) while hitting .262 over 33 games.

Local talent Ryan Osinski made headlines as the 17th-round pick (524th overall) by the New York Yankees. The Alexandria native and St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School graduate played for the Aces in 2022 after starring at the University of Virginia. As the team’s closer, Osinski helped lead the Aces to their Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League Championship, finishing with a perfect 4-0 record, 3.14 ERA, and 36 strikeouts, including a save in Game One of the Championship Series.

The Chicago Cubs selected Colton Book in the 9th round (271st overall). Book, who played for the Aces in 2021, made six appearances with four starts, posting a 4.43 ERA with 15 strikeouts in 22.1 innings and earning his lone win during the playoffs with five shutout innings.

Cameron Keshock, a 2023 Aces player from Samford University, was chosen by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 12th round (353rd overall). He dominated during his tenure with a 2.42 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 26 innings, including one save.

The San Diego Padres selected Dylan Grego in the 13th round (400th overall). The Ball State product batted .270 over 29 games in 2023, recording 20 RBIs, 20 runs scored, and 13 extra-base hits.

Jacob Hartlaub, another Ball State player who competed for the Aces in 2022, was picked by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 14th round (417th overall). He led the championship team in ERA (4.56), innings pitched (47.1), strikeouts (48), and wins (5).

Rounding out the draft class was Sam Robertson, selected by the New York Mets in the 17th round (523rd overall). The Northwest Shoals Community College product showcased his speed in 2024 with 17 stolen bases, 23 runs scored, and a .370 on-base percentage.

“This year’s MLB Draft class is a testament to the hard work of our players, coaches, and the entire Aces organization,” said Frank Fannon, President of the Alexandria Aces. “We are incredibly proud to see so many of our former players take the next step in their baseball careers.”

Head Coach Chris Berset expressed his pride in the drafted players: “Congratulations to my guys who I have had the privilege to coach while in college. I can’t wait to watch each and every one of your journeys continue to flourish!”
