After six years of bringing handcrafted wines and community spirit to Northern Virginia, Woodlawn Press Winery announced today (July 8) that it will permanently close its tasting room (8733-B Cooper Road, Alexandria) on Saturday, July 26, marking the end of an era for the urban microwinery that became a beloved fixture in the Fairfax County community.
Andrew and Bonnie, the husband-and-wife team behind Woodlawn Press, shared the bittersweet news through an emotional Instagram post and detailed announcement on their website, revealing that their decision comes as they prepare to join family wine operations in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
“This decision comes as we’re excited to announce that over the next year, we’ll be transitioning to Pittsburgh, PA, to join and operate family businesses there,” the couple explained in their announcement.

The move represents a homecoming of sorts for the family-driven operation. Andrew, who began his winemaking journey crafting bottles at home for seven years before opening Woodlawn Press, learned much of his expertise from Bonnie’s cousin Angela and her husband John, who pioneered the family’s first microwinery in Washington, Pennsylvania. Bonnie’s sister Maria and her husband Josh also played influential roles in supporting the couple’s Virginia venture.
Now, Andrew and Bonnie will join forces with the Washington Winery, Washington Brewing Company, and B&B Distillery, bringing their winemaking philosophy full circle to where it all began.
Located in Fairfax County (with an Alexandria mailing address), Woodlawn Press Winery carved out a unique niche in Northern Virginia’s competitive wine scene by honoring traditional methods passed down through Bonnie’s family for over a century. The couple took pride in creating wines using techniques similar to those employed by Bonnie’s ancestors, bringing what they called “a unique wine experience to the Northern Virginia area.”
Operating Thursday through Sunday, the intimate tasting room gained a reputation for its community-focused approach and the personal touch that only a small, family-owned operation can offer.
While the tasting room will close, Andrew and Bonnie assured their loyal customers that Woodlawn Press wines will continue to be available at various wine festivals and markets throughout the region. They plan to regularly update their website with dates and locations where wine enthusiasts can continue to enjoy their carefully crafted bottles.
The couple is planning a farewell celebration for Saturday, July 26 – their final day of operation – inviting customers and friends to join them “for one last toast” and to celebrate the memories made over the past six years. Details about the farewell party will be announced soon.
“We can’t thank you enough for supporting our family business,” Andrew and Bonnie wrote to their customers. “Your understanding and continued patronage mean the world to us as we transition to this new chapter.”
