ALIVE!, Alexandria’s largest organization preventing food and housing insecurity, has announced new leadership for its executive committee as the organization enters fiscal year 2026.
The nonprofit, founded in 1969, serves approximately 20,000 individuals each month by providing food, transitional shelter, financial assistance, eviction prevention, and furniture and household essentials. Carlton Willis, a fifth-generation member of Alfred Street Baptist Church, where he serves as a deacon, has been elected as the new board president, following his previous service as vice president.
The executive committee, which handles day-to-day governance and is elected by ALIVE!’s full board of congregational representatives and program chairs, will see several changes alongside Willis’s promotion. Siobhan Mould from Community Praise Church will serve as the new vice president, while Gaynelle Diaz from ARHA and Oakland Baptist Church returns for a second term. Former Alexandria Mayor Justin Wilson is joining the board as a new member.
Outgoing President Rolf Blank will transition to the role of immediate past-president, while Rawles Jones of Christ Church is stepping down from the executive board after a long tenure to spend more time with his family.
Willis outlined his priorities for the organization, emphasizing increased engagement with ALIVE!’s 50 member congregations and expanding community partnerships. “I hope to increase the level of involvement of ALIVE!’s 50 member congregations and expand the number of community partners who support our work and continue the legacy of community led service,” Willis said.

The new president also highlighted fundraising as a key focus area. “I know that we will need to expand our fundraising efforts in the wake of cuts to government programs and rising operational costs,” he noted, adding that improving the volunteer experience is another priority to “grow our team of people who are passionate about service.”
Blank, reflecting on his tenure, expressed confidence in the organization’s direction. “I am looking forward to seeing the organization build on the Strategic Plan we put in place during my term but focusing on its three priorities of centering the client, connecting with the community, and realizing efficiency and sustainability,” he said.
ALIVE! Executive Director Jennifer Ayers praised both leaders’ strategic approach. “Both Rolf and Carlton are forward thinkers who are leading the work of the organization by transforming the Executive Committee to think and act strategically to ensure the longevity and resources are in place to serve our community,” Ayers said. She noted that all 81 members of the full board, including interfaith members, are being prepared to advocate for the organization’s mission.
The leadership transition comes as ALIVE! continues its mission as Alexandria’s largest organization preventing food and housing insecurity. Supported by a 17-member staff, 50 interfaith congregations, and thousands of volunteers, partners and donors, the organization helps Alexandrians through two food hubs, pantry partners, and distribution sites while responding to financial emergencies and providing essential needs such as housewares and furniture.
