Alexandria’s Market Square was covered in rainbows Saturday for the City’s 8th Annual Pride Fair.
The event included dozens of vendors from businesses, nonprofits and the city. Vice Mayor Sarah Bagley read a city proclamation to the audience that exemplified the city’s support of the LGBTQ+ community. Inside City Hall, young children and their families listened to drag queen story hour with queen Lemon X Fluiditea.
City Council Member R. Kirk McPike said that the thousands were participating at the event
“I think the turnout today with all the vendors and the thousands of residents is a symbol that Alexandria’s commitment to the LGBTQ community is not situational,” McPike said. “We’re not going to change it because of the environment in D.C. It doesn’t matter what sort of policies you have coming from the president and the Supreme Court. Alexandria is unwavering in its support of the LGBTQ community.”
The event was hosted by the Alexandria LGBTQ+ Task Force, the Alexandria Library, the city’s Department of Community and Human Services, and community organizations.
