Waterfront Commission to lead tour of Old Town North’s waterfront

Alexandria’s Waterfront Commission is gearing up for its yearly walking tour of the Old Town North waterfront on Saturday (June 21). This two-hour public event will showcase recent developments and ongoing projects along the Potomac River.

The tour kicks off at 8 a.m. from Oronoco Bay Park, covering key spots like Canal Center, the new TideLock project, and the Potomac River Generating Station redevelopment site.

Leading the tour will be Agnès Artemel from Artemel & Associates and Jack Browand, Deputy Director of the Department of Recreation, Parks, & Cultural Activities.

The Old Town North Alliance, Old Town North Community Partnership, and North Old Town Independent Citizens Association (NOTICe) are joining forces to host this event, aiming to highlight the changing face of Alexandria’s historic waterfront.

In an email to community members, the Old Town North Alliance said, “This year’s tour will explore the Old Town North Waterfront including Canal Center, the new TideLock project, and the Potomac River Generating Station redevelopment, and will continue down North Fairfax Street with stops at Montgomery Park and featuring a special tour of the interior of the MetroStage space at Venue”.

Tour-goers might also spot the Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail doing a cleanup near the Potomac River Generating Station. Anyone interested in joining the cleanup after the tour can sign up through an Eventbrite link provided by the organizers.

The walking tour wraps up at 10 a.m., ending back at the Oronoco Bay Park parking lot.
