Alexandria will honor fallen service members with a Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday (May 26). The event will take place at the Mount Vernon Recreation Center (2701 Commonwealth Ave.) from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
The ceremony will pay tribute to Captain Humbert Roque “Rocky” Versace and 68 Alexandrians who lost their lives or are still missing in action from the Vietnam War.
This solemn event will pay tribute to Captain Humbert Roque “Rocky” Versace (U.S. Military Academy Class of 1959, posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, and a Vietnam War POW/MIA), as well as the 68 Alexandrians who were killed or remain missing in action during the Vietnam War. We will also remember and honor all of our nation’s fallen military heroes.
The Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities is organizing the event alongside the “Friends of Rocky Versace.” It will be held at the Captain Rocky Versace Plaza & Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
The community is invited to join in showing appreciation for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
