Alexandria’s City Council is gearing up for its City Council Public Hearing on Saturday (May 17).
Among the docket items is a Public Hearing, Second Reading, and Final Passage of an Ordinance that would eventually ban gas-powered leaf blowers within city limits. The proposed change to noise regulations aims to address both quality of life and environmental concerns.
The council will also review a Development Special Use Permit for George Mason Elementary School’s reconstruction. This project involves partial demolition and rebuilding of the school, along with permits for new indoor and outdoor recreation facilities. The Planning Commission has already approved it with a 6-1 vote.
Other items on the agenda include:
– Special use permits for parking reductions at various apartment complexes
– Zoning text amendments to clarify open space requirements and allowed uses in different zones
– A five-year license agreement with the Alexandria Seaport Foundation for docking the Maritime Heritage Center I & II at the City Marina
The public hearing starts at 9:30 a.m. and will be available to watch on government channel 70 and the city’s website live stream. The meeting will take place both in person in the Council Chambers and online via Zoom.
