Historic Garden Week draws thousands to Old Town

Virginia’s Historic Garden Week drew thousands of visitors to Old Town on Saturday (April 26), according to organizers.

Five private homes and gardens opened their doors for this annual event, hosted by the Garden Club of Alexandria and the Hunting Creek Garden Club.

“We were delighted to welcome visitors from near and far to Old Town for this year’s tour,” said tour co-Chair Barbara Warder. “The weather didn’t get in the way of enjoying a truly special day. It was wonderful to see so many people exploring the rich history, beautiful homes, and vibrant gardens that make Old Town Alexandria so unique.”

The tour included free access to several historic sites, including George Washington’s Mount Vernon, River Farm, Green Spring Gardens, and the Lee-Fendall House.

A Garden Week marketplace was set up at the Athenaeum for those looking to shop.

Proceeds from the event go toward restoring and preserving historic public gardens and landscapes across Virginia.

Mark your calendars: Historic Garden Week is set to return in 2025, from April 18–25.
