Landmark/Van Dorn residents invited to shape community health via a ‘Walk & Talk’ event

The City of Alexandria is inviting Landmark/Van Dorn residents to join a “Walk & Talk” event on Saturday, April 26, to share their thoughts on community health. The two-hour gathering starts at 2 p.m. at the ALIVE! Food Hub on S Van Dorn Street, where participants will take a one-mile loop around the neighborhood in small groups.

This event is part of Alexandria’s 2024 Community Health Assessment (CHA), which will shape the city’s next five-year Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). City staff will be on hand to listen to residents’ concerns and ideas for change.

The Alexandria Health Department, ALIVE!, NoVA RAFT, Patrick Henry K-8 School PTA, and West End Business Association are working together to host this event. People of all ages are welcome, and refreshments will be provided. Interpreters are available on request to ensure everyone can participate. RSVP online if you are planning to attend.

There’s another way to contribute for those who can’t make it or live outside the Landmark/Van Dorn area. Alexandria is creating a community health photo album where residents can share photos or videos showing how their environment affects their health.

The city has made sure the event is accessible, with information on transit options and parking for those who need help getting there.

Check out the CHA/CHIP website to learn more about Walk & Talk and other ways to contribute to Alexandria’s Community Health Assessment.
