Alexandria firefighters extinguish shopping center fire; assist with auto fire in underground parking garage

Firefighters in Alexandria have had a busy weekend, responding to a variety of incidents.

On Sunday morning, Engine 208 rushed to the 5200 block of Duke Street after an automatic alarm went off. When they arrived, they found smoke coming from a one-story strip mall connected to a high-rise building. More units were called in to help put out the fire.

Alexandria Firefighters, Inc. IAFF Local 2141 shared the news on their Facebook page, saying, “Engine 208 responded to an automatic alarm in the 5200 Block of Duke Street. On arrival they found smoke showing and located a fire in a one story strip shopping center connected to a high rise. Additional units were then alerted and crews made quick work extinguishing the fire. No injuries reported.”

On Saturday (March 29) night, Alexandria firefighters helped out with a car fire in an underground parking garage in Crystal City. Engine 209 was the second unit to arrive and quickly got to work, using a hose to put out the fully engulfed vehicle. Engines 203 and 204, along with Tower 203 and Battalion 201, also showed up to lend a hand.

Alexandria Firefighters, Inc. IAFF Local 2141 shared the news on their Facebook page, saying, “Engine 209 arrived second due at an auto fire in an underground parking garage in Crystal City. Engine 209 deployed a handline and extinguished a fully involved auto. Engines 203 and 204 along with Tower 203 and Battalion 201 would respond and assist as well”.
