The Center for Alexandria’s Children is undergoing a leadership change, with Executive Director Giselle Pelaez stepping down after 16 years at the helm. Terri Cheshire, M.A., who joined the center full-time in 2021 after working as a consultant, will take over as Acting Executive Director.
In a press release, the organization’s Board of Directors praised Pelaez’s dedication and impact, noting her key role in bolstering child advocacy efforts in Alexandria and fostering a collaborative, compassionate approach to addressing child abuse.

As the Center moves forward, we are pleased to announce that Terri Cheshire, M.A., will serve as Acting Executive Director. Terri joined the Center full-time in 2021 after previously serving as a consultant. With extensive experience in international social work, child welfare, and advocacy, Terri brings a strong commitment to our mission and the children and families we serve.
The Center for Alexandria’s Children remains steadfast in its mission to protect and support children and families in our community. We look forward to continuing our important work under Terri’s leadership.
Cheshire brings a wealth of experience to her new role. She earned her Master of Arts in International Social Work and Community Development from the University of East London in 2007. Her career includes managing partners and projects across 16 countries for an international non-profit in London, working as a social caseworker in Colorado, and serving as a project manager and management consultant specializing in child welfare and advocacy.
The Center for Alexandria’s Children is committed to combating child abuse through intervention, prevention, and education services. As a nationally accredited Children’s Advocacy Center, it offers weekly Learn&PlayGroups™ for parents and caregivers with children up to age 5. The organization also provides certified trainings on preventing child sexual abuse, based on the Stewards of Children’s Darkness To Light program.
