The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has extended the opportunity to provide feedback on a STARS (Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions) study.

The participation deadline, which was March 14, has been extended to March 28. The study is assessing potential safety, operational, transit, and bicycle/pedestrian improvements along the two-and-a-half-mile stretch of South Van Dorn Street (Route 613) between Telegraph Road (Route 611) and the Alexandria city limits.

VDOT invites residents and travelers to take the online survey regarding corridor priorities. VDOT says that the feedback will help develop improvement alternatives that will be evaluated and presented during another opportunity for public comment later this year.

The survey is available through March 28. Comments can also be sent to [email protected].gov (put “South Van Dorn Street STARS Study” in the subject line) or to Mr. Bobby Mangalath, P.E., Virginia Department of Transportation, 4975 Alliance Drive, Fairfax, VA 22030 through March 28.

The study is expected to be complete in late 2026. STARS studies do not set construction dates for any improvements but develop proposed improvements that localities can pursue for funding.
