Next week the Planning Commission is scheduled to review a special use permit that could bring the French Toast food truck and a new salad restaurant Salad Topia to Del ray.
The special use permit is for 1506 Mount Vernon Avenue. the restaurant would be inside the building while French Toast would operate from trailers behind the building.
French Toast’s online menu shows a variety of — as the name would suggest — French Toast themed dishes like toast covered in Fruity Pebbles or stuffed with blueberries.
A staff report noted that a food truck had already been operating on the property without a special use permit last June and was issued a warning and two citations. The owner filed for a permit to operate on the property, but the Fire Marshal said the trailer could not remain at its current location as it would not maintain the minimum ten feet of distance between the trailer and the buildings.
The applicant and city staff worked out a compromise that shows the trailers will be relocated to the parking lot behind the building, where the current food truck operates.
The restaurant, meanwhile, will have 16 seats inside the building and 80 outdoor dining seats located in front of the building.
French Toast will operate from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The restaurant be open from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. daily.
The project is scheduled for review at the Planning Commission (docket item 3) on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
