Between two and four inches of snow and icy conditions are expected Sunday in and around Alexandria.

A National Weather Service Winter Weather Advisory is in effect in Alexandria from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

NWS cautioned that travel could be very difficult during those hours.

According to NWS:

Snow will overspread the area Sunday morning and continue through the afternoon before tapering off during the evening. Snowfall rates could approach 1 inch an hour at times. Temperatures will fall into the teens Sunday night so any lingering moisture on area roadways will freeze.

The Northern Virginia Transportation Authority advised residents on X to prepare for roadway closures this weekend.
