All local Historic Alexandria museums will be closed, as will the libraries.
As with other holidays, the Alexandria Police Department said it will be suspending enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces and residential permit parking districs.
“This suspension of enforcement applies only to the restrictions at legal parking spaces and does not permit parking in any normally prohibited location,” a city release said. “Temporary no-parking signs will be enforced.”
There are various events around the region commemorating the legacy of MLK. Alexandria’s 52nd Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Program is scheduled for his actual birthday tomorrow (Wednesday).
The program is scheduled for 6:30-8 p.m. at the George Washington Masonic Memorial.
“The City of Alexandria and the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Planning Committee will host a community celebration of the life, dream, and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,” the event listing said. “The theme this year is Mission Possible: Protecting Freedom, Justice & Democracy.”
The program is free, but attendees are asked to register online.
Additionally, a poster exhibition and program is on display in City Hall (301 King Street) with artwork from artwork from Alexandria City Public School students. The exhibit will be on display from Saturday, Jan. 18, to Feb. 29.
