Here’s the four conceptual design options for Alexandria’s Market Square

There’s less than two weeks left to weigh in on a survey of the four conceptual designs for the renovation of Market Square in front of Alexandria’s City Hall (301 King Street).

The survey deadline is midnight on Nov. 25.

City staff started the public engagement process during the summer for the renovation project. A number of popular amenities are included in the proposals, like a water fountain, a covered stage for public events, improved accessibility and trees.

The Market Square renovation would coincide with the makeover of City Hall.

Stay tuned for the results in early December where we’ll narrow it down to two concepts,” the city said in a release.

Market Square is located in the heart of Old Town, just a few blocks from the Potomac River. It’s home to one of the oldest farmers’ markets in the country, the Old Town Farmers’ Market, the city Christmas Tree, as well as a number of presentations and other events.

Construction is planned from 2026 to 2028, pending City Council approval.

Below is an October presentation on the options.
