If you crave that sensual touch of trailing your fingers softly down the spine of a new book — gasping in the pleasure of opening a new novel for the first time — there’s a new romance-focused bookstore coming to Old Town just for you.

Washingtonian reported that Friends to Lovers Bookstore is opening next month at 103 S. St Asaph Street. The new bookstore has created a buzz on TikTok and Instagram. The grand opening on Nov. 14, capped at 200 for fire safety reasons, hit its RSVP cap in under 24 hours.

The book store specializes in romance, with various subgenres like historical, small town and fantasy all having representation. Owner Jamie Fortin told Washingtonian there’s also a special focus on making sure the space is friendly for all women and queer people as well, with plenty of queer and BIPOC representation on the shelves.

“At Friends to Lovers, we’re creating a space where every community can feel at home—a cozy romance bookstore designed to spread love in all its forms,” the shop said on Instagram.
