Three years after purchasing the building, Mudhouse Coffee Roasters could finally be moving into 1119 King Street.

The owner filed a new special use permit this week to renovate the existing retail/mercantile space into use as a coffee shop. The shop will have 20-25 maximum patrons, according to the permit.

Mudhouse is a regional coffee shop with six other locations, with three locations around Charlottesville, one in Richmond, one in Crozet, and one in Charleston, South Carolina.

The delay wasn’t entirely unexpected: at the time it was reported that the current tenant, J. Brown and Co., still had two years left on their lease. The owner told ALXnow it might be two years before the coffee shop is able to open.
