NaNoWriMo organizers are in hot water over comments about allowing AI, but there’s one surefire way to ensure the story isn’t AI-generated: Alexandria is hosting a writing event with vintage typewriters.

The Get Out & Type event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7, from 1-3 p.m. at the James M. Duncan Jr. Branch Library (2501 Commonwealth Avenue).

According to the event listing:

Experience both manual and electric typewriters paired with writing prompts to get the creative juices flowing!

Join us for an open writing event where folks can walk in, sit down at a typewriter, and compose a poem or short story based on provided prompts. Attendees will also be encouraged to go around the room and experiment with different typewriters brought to us by GO&Type “Get Out and Type”, a local organization that collects vintage typewriters, both manual and electric.

A typewriter will be raffled off at the end of the event for one attendee to keep. At the time of writing, there are 16 seats remaining.
