Alexandria’s City Council will be weighing up new regulations on short-term rentals this fall, and the City is collecting public feedback on what shape that should take.

Proposed regulations include:

  • Occupancy limit of two per bedroom plus two additional persons
  • The operator must maintain a guest log of all occupants for one year
  • All weddings, parties, special events and any gathering exceeding the maximum occupancy are forbidden
  • A maximum of four cars on each property
  • Guest cars cannot block driveways, sidewalks, mailboxes or alleyways
  • Require parking plan if parking not available on the property

An online feedback asks respondents what their connection is to short-term rentals and questions about what they think of the proposed regulations.

A study found that most Airbnb hosts in Alexandria rent out their entire home and 69% of rentals are single-family homes. As a fun aside: Alexandria Airbnbs have the second highest rating in Virginia, only behind Charlottesville.

A release from the City of Alexandria said the survey will be live until Sunday, Sept. 15.
