Earlier this month, ABC7 reported that Alexandria Animal Control was investigating the death of a dog at the PetSmart boarding facility in Potomac Yard.
Now, a second family has come forward and said their dog Blue, who had a check-up not long before being boarded and was healthy, came back from the facility sick and died days later.
Blue’s owners told ABC7 that when they picked up their dog, his eyes were bloody and his cornea was cloudy. They went to the pet hospital connected to the PetSmart, who said the dog had glaucoma, but a vet told the family the next day that it was not glaucoma.
Three days later, the dog died.
PetSmart told ABC7 the dogs’ deaths were caused by underlying conditions unrelated to the pets’ stay at the boarding facility, something the pet owners said is not true. The deaths remain under investigation by the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.
