DC News Now reported that families in the Ashlawn complex, part of the Southern Towers apartment buildings in the West End, have been without air conditioning since Monday during a record-setting heat wave.
Alexandria has been under an Excessive Heat Warning for the last few days with temperatures over 100 degrees. There was no relief inside at Southern Towers, however, with air conditioning out on Monday due to a broken chiller, according to DC News Now.
Building owner The CIM Group told DC News Now it was making accommodations on a first-come, first-serve basis for items like portable air conditioning units and cooling centers. The replacement, the owner said, could get in today (Wednesday).
The outage is the latest incident in a string of what many residents have reported to be appalling conditions inside the residential complex. The five-building complex was first constructed in the 1960s and residents have faced frequent flooding and problems with mold and rodent infestations.
