A local coffee shop mere steps from the federal courthouse in Alexandria is no more.
Sprig’s Coffee and Pastry Cafe, which opened only two years ago at 2050 Ballenger Avenue, has closed.
Signage on the door alerts customers to the closure, which a company spokesperson attributed to financial issues.
“While the food and service at Sprig’s were superb, the economic challenges of operating a café in our area were daunting,” the spokesperson told ARLnow. “We are extremely grateful to the talented, dedicated staff who worked at Sprig’s over the past two years as well as the many customers who enjoyed its wonderful offerings.”
The cafe offered a variety of traditional coffee drinks, including lattes, cappuccinos and chai. An assortment of pastries was available, as were soups, salads, sandwiches and wraps.
Despite the closure, those looking for a dose of caffeine will not have to go far. A Dunkin’, a Panera Bread and a Starbucks are each within a quarter of a mile from the now-vacant storefront.
