A 24/7 Pet ER facility operated by the Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) is opening tomorrow (Wednesday) at the Shoppes of Foxchase shopping center.
The facility at 4525 Duke Street is scheduled to launch with an open house from 4:30-6:30 p.m. followed by a ribbon cutting.
The facility says it allows people to stay with their pets through all stages of treatment, including surgery and overnight hospitalization.
The new Alexandria location is the second VEG hospital in Virginia, the first is in Falls Church.
“When a pet parent walks into VEG Alexandria, they will immediately feel they have finally found a place that will provide their family and pet the best emergency veterinary experience that exists,” Dr. David Bessler, VEG founder and CEO, said in a release. “Upon entering VEG Alexandria, pet parents will feel a sigh of relief and comfort, as they are greeted with a friendly smile, empathetic attitude, and luxury comforts for them, and their pet.”
Many veterinary facilities only treat dogs and cats, an item of particular interest to ALXnow’s rabbit affairs editor Hugo, but a media contact said “VEG treats any animal that fits through the door- rabbits, reptiles, birds, goats, etc.”
The media representative also noted that the facility includes pullout beds for pet parents to stay overnight and windows to watch surgery.
“Keeping people and pets together lowers stress for both the human and animal,” they said.
The facility is open 24/7, including holidays.
