Alexandria is not exactly an epicenter of Republican activity — Gov. Glenn Youngkin was once heckled on a visit to the Bradlee Shopping Center —  but Axios speculated that Trump staffers in a potential second term could favor Alexandria as an alternative to living and socializing in D.C.

Trump has called D.C. a “filthy and crime-ridden embarrassment to our nation.” Axios writer Anna Spiegel wrote that, rather than socialize in D.C. hangouts, “the next generation of Trump staff will gravitate toward Alexandria and the surrounding Virginia ‘burbs, home to Vance, Paul Manafort, and other right-wing heavies.”

Right-wing folks looking for a comradery in Alexandria might be in for a rude awakening, though. The city is overwhelmingly liberal. The last time Alexandria elected a Republican mayor was during Reconstruction. During the 2020 election, Alexandria voted 66,240 for Biden and only 14,544 for Trump.
