A pair of new plaques honoring the Alexandrians who died in the Vietnam War will be installed and dedicated over the next month around Alexandria.

VFW Post 609, American Legion Post 24, and the Office of Historic Alexandria are memorializing the Alexandrians with a plaque dedication ceremony on Monday, Memorial Day.

The plaque will be installed at Alexandria Union Station (110 Callahan Drive) at the city’s Monument to its War Dead. The ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m. and is a free event.

Among those listed is Humbert Roque “Rocky” Versace, a prisoner of war who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

The plaque resulted from a fundraising campaign by the Veterans Service Organization, which raised $15,000 for the two plaques, Zebra reported.

A second plaque is scheduled to be dedicated at the exterior of the American Legion Post 24 building at 400 Cameron Street. That dedication is scheduled for June 14 at 6 p.m.
