Del Ray Boccato, a gelato spot at 2400 Mount Vernon Avenue that opened in 2020, is closing up shop next month.
In a message shared on social media and the front door of the shop, owner Cristian Velasco said the restaurant survived the pandemic and other challenges, but that it was time to move on.
Del Ray Boccato offers a variety of gelato flavors, along with coffee, empanadas and pastries.
The restaurant had previously been located in Arlington and Velasco didn’t rule out reopening some day in Clarendon or Falls Church.
Velasco said in 2020 that it was “definitely risk” to open a business in 2020, but the restaurant endured for four years.
The letter on the front door of the shop said:
We made it through the world pandemic and other business challenges, but it’s time [to] go.
We would like to thank our loyal customers and so many new friends for keeping us in business for almost 5 years!
Sadly, many people in Del Ray/Alexandria did not get the chance to discover us or did not even know we were here.
We will try to reopen soon in the area, probably back to Clarendon or Falls Church.
Check us out on our social media for updates on our future location.
