Community conversations about the future of the shuttered GenOn plant in Old Town North continue with another community meeting later this month.
A virtual community meeting on the future of the plant will be held on Thursday, Feb. 24, at 6:30 p.m.
Owner Hilco Redevelopment Partners’ will present another update on the potential mixed use of retail and housing for the site. Plans are still in initial phases, and include 14 acres of open space and buildings that could reach 16 stories in height.
Hilco, which bought the property in 2020, has provided multiple tours of the plant to the community.
Demolition for the site is slated to begin next year on the 18-acre site in Old Town North, and construction is expected to take between 18 and 31 months.
